🔖 What is Tag???

কথা বলার সময় বক্তা শ্রোতার সমর্থন চেয়ে Sentence এর শেষে যে সংক্ষিপ্ত প্রশ্ন জুরে দেয় তাকে tag question বলে। You wrote the letter, didn’t you? He doesn’t go to school, does he? উপরের উদাহরন থেকে বুঝা যাচ্ছে বক্তা নিজে নিজে একটা অনুমান করছে, আর এই অনুমান সত্য কিনা তা যাচাই করার জন্য তিনি তার বক্তব্যের শেষে একটি সংক্ষিপ্ত প্রশ্ন জুড়ে দিচ্ছেন।

📌 Tag question এর বৈশিষ্ট্য

1. Tag গুলি সর্বদাই statement এর শেষে যুক্ত হবে।
2. Tag question এর পূর্বে কমা (,) হবে এবং পরে প্রশ্নবােধক চিহ হবে।
3. Tag question এর Verb তার subject এর আগে বসে।
4. Affirmative statement এর tag negative এবং negative statement এর tag Affirmative হবে ।
5. Tag এর subject সর্বদা pronoun হবে এবং এর number, person, gender সাধারনত statement এর person, gender অনুযায়ী হবে।

📌 Tag Question Operator

Tag এর verb কে বলা হয় operator বা সাহায্যকারী ক্রিয়া ইংরেজী ভাষায় এরুপ সাহায্যকারী ক্রিয়া 24 টি।

1. Am not = aren’t
2. Is not = isn’t
3. Are not = aren’t
4. Was not = wasn’t
5. Were not = weren’t
6. Has not = hasn’t
7. Have not = haven’t
8. Had not = hadn’t
9. Shall not = shan’t
10. Should not = shouldn’t
11. Will not = won’t
12. Would not = wouldn’t
13. Can not = can’t
14. Could not = couldn’t
15. May not = mayn’t
16. Might not = mightn’t
17. Must not = mustn’t
18. Used not = usedn’t
19. Ought not = oughtn’t
20. Dare not = daren’t
21. Need not = needn’t
22. Do not = don’t
23. Does not = doesn’t
24. Did not = didn’t

📌 General Rules:

🔸 Statement হ্যা-বোধক হলে Tag হবে না-বোধক।
🔸 Statement না-বোধক হলে Tag হবে হ্যা-বোধক।
(না-বোধক শব্দ not, no, never, none, nobody, no one, nothing, few, little, hardly, seldom)

📌 Subject & Verb Agreement for Tag Questions:

Additional Rules:

1. Plural Verb থাকলে Subject ‘they’ হবেই হবে। কিন্তু Single Verb থাকলে Subject Single হতে পারে আবার ‘they’ ও হতে পারে।

2. -body, -one, no one, none, all, -of them থাকলে Subject হবে they। এক্ষেত্রে-

🔸 s/es থাকলে verb হবে do - He does his homework, doesn’t he?
🔸 is থাকলে verb হবে are - She is happy, isn’t she?
🔸 was থাকলে verb হবে were - He was at the party, wasn’t he?
🔸 has থাকলে verb হবে have - She has completed her task, hasn’t she?

3. Single পুরুষ মানুষ বুঝালে Subject হবে he।

🔸 He is going to school, isn’t he?

4. Single স্ত্রী মানুষ বুঝালে Subject হবে she।

🔸 She is working hard, isn’t she?

5. Single মানুষ ব্যাতীত অন্য কোনকিছু বুঝালে Subject হবে it।

🔸 The book is interesting, isn’t it?

6. -thing থাকলে subject হবে it।

🔸 Something is wrong, isn’t it?

7. দেশের নাম, নদীর নাম, জাহাজের নাম, অট্রালিকা, earth, moon থাকলে Subject হবে she।

🔸 The Earth is beautiful, isn’t she?
🔸 The Titanic sank, didn’t it?

8. I am থাকলে হবে aren’t I?

🔸 I am right, aren’t I?

9. Fine, থাকলে aren’t I?

🔸 I am fine, aren’t I?

10. Sorry, থাকলে aren’t I?

🔸 I’m sorry, aren’t I?

11. Thank you, থাকলে don’t I?

🔸 Thank you for your help, don’t I?

12. Let us/ let’s থাকলে shall we?

🔸 Let’s go for a walk, shall we?

13. Let + অন্যান্য থাকলে will you?

🔸 Let me know, will you?

14. Don’t থাকলে হবে will you?

🔸 Don’t worry, will you?

15. প্রথমে মূল verb থাকলে won’t you?

🔸 Go and bring it, won’t you?

16. The mother rose in her থাকলে didn’t it?

🔸 The boat sailed, didn’t it?

17. I’d + V1 থাকলে wouldn’t I?

🔸 I’d help you, wouldn’t I?

18. I’d + V3 থাকলে hadn’t I?

🔸 I’d completed my task, hadn’t I?

19. OK, isn’t it?

🔸 The weather is nice today, isn’t it?

20. Wow! Isn’t it?

🔸 Wow! This is beautiful, isn’t it?

1. Nothing is impossible, is it?
2. Let’s motivate them, shall we?
3. Motivation seldom goes in vain, does it?
4. Let us start our journey, shall we?
5. Nobody should laugh at the blind, should they?
6. Somebody left their house yesterday, didn’t they?
7. Bangladesh is our motherland, isn’t she?
8. Let’s arrange a class party, shall we?
9. The moon shines at night, doesn’t she?
10. Everybody loves flowers, don’t they?
11. Nothing can satisfy him, can it?
